Tradition says that Edward Wilder of Hingham came from Lancashire in 1638 with his mother Martha, a widow who died 20 April 1652. Edward was freeman in 1644. Savage says he had sons John, Ephraim, Isaac and Jabez; with four daughters, but of the daughters he names only Elizabeth.
Lincoln tells that he had his first grant of land at Hingham on 8 October 1637, and received other grants from the town, including a tract next to that given to his mother, the widow Martha Wilder, in 1638. Edward owned all the land between Tower's Bridge and Wilder's Bridge. He was a farmer, and was made freeman 29 May 1644. In 1667 he served as selectman. On 1 December 1675 he was one of the 16 soldiers from Hingham at the outbreak of King Philip's War. He died intestate on 18 October 1690, having been suddenly stricken with malignant fever. His widow Elizabeth and son Jabez were appointed administrators.
