RITTMAN City Service Director David Simpson died unexpectedly Saturday night. He was 55.
City Manager Larry Boggs referred to Simpson as my right-hand man.
His years of experience were invaluable to me as a city manager, Boggs said. I worked with Dave when I was police chief, and when I was city manager I realized how valuable he was because he had a wealth of knowledge on how things operate he was kind of like the walking encyclopedia.
Simpson was an active member of the Lions Club, where he spent time serving as the clubs president and other roles.
Longtime friend and fellow Lions Club member Jerry Corp said Simpson was a kind man who loved golf and cars.
David was always there if you needed anything, no matter who it was, Corp said. If someone needed help doing something or monetarily or just whatever, he was always there.
Boggs said Rittman has lost a valuable member of the community.
He was with the Lions for many years, Boggs said. He was one of those individuals that when he got into the Lions Club, he was a worker, not just someone who sat back. He was very active and got things done. The community is going to miss him in both respects.
Corp called Simpson a workaholic who, at the end of his work day with the city, would come home and work on cars or help others with things they needed.
He was very involved with anything that had to do with the community, friends or family, Corp said.
