Marl. - M. Nov. 8, 1655, Elizabeth King. She d. 1667, and he m. 2nd,Sept. 1668, Mary Brown. She d. in Concord, where they had probably retired during the Indian war, 1675, and he m. 3d., Sarah, wid. of James Hosmer, of Concord, Dec. 13, 1676. The births of his four eldest children are recorded in Sudbury, the births of the others are found in Marl, except the youngest, which is in Concord. He probably came to Marl. about 1662, and d. there, Feb. 25, 1685, aged about 51.

Baptismal records submitted by Mr. Boutwell of Woburn from the Parish Registry of Barkhamstead, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. The"three" older children of Edmund Rice are not found in the Registry at Barkhamstead; they probably came to that place with their parents, but where from, unknown.
Also, p. 7 - Was 32 years old May 2, 1666, according to his testimony on the court files at Cambridge. Res. at Sud. and Marl.
His 2nd wife was Mary Brown, whom he m. at Sud. Concord records say she d. June 18, 1678 -- should be 1675, instead of 1678. They had probably retired to Concord for a season as a place of refuge from the Indian enemy.
His 3d wife was Sarah, widow of James Hosmer, Jr. of Concord.
The births of his four eldest chil. are on Sud. records; the births of the others are found at Marl., with the exception of that of the youngest, which is at Concord.
The family of his 2d wife, Mary, was Dix. She was the widow of Abraham Brown of Watertown. He m. her, Feb. 5, 1662. He was b. 1639, the son of Abraham and Lydia Brown, and d. 1667, leaving a son Abraham, who d. at Marl. May, 1678, aged 13, and in the record of his death is called son-in-law of Samuel Rice.
The testimony of Thomas Fleg (Flagg) of Watertown, 1679, on court files,is, that "Samuel Rice m. Mary, widow of Abraham Brown, about one year after Brown's death; and that she lived with him seven years, and then she died.
The family name of his 3d wife, Sarah, was White. She m. James Hosmer, Jr. (son of James Hosmer of Concord) Oct. 13, 1658. He was killed by the Indians at "Sudbury fight" in the spring of 1676.
"Samuel Rice and Stephen Hosmer motion to court, 1667, that James Hosmer,Jr. of Concord, being slayne by Indians, and said Rice having m. hiswidow, that his estate may be settled." James Hosmer, Sen. came fromKent, Eng., and was one of the first settlers of Concord, where he d.Feb. 7, 1685.
The will of Samuel Rice, Feb. 10, 1684, proved April 7, 1685, gave to wife Sarah, to sons Joshua and Edmund, to daus. Elizabeth Haynes, Hannah Hubbard and Esther Hubbard, to my son Samuel Rice, whom I have given to brother and sister King for their own, to sons Edward and Joseph, and 2 daus., Mary and Abigail Rice, under 18. His brothers Edward and Joseph Rice were overseers of his will. Inventory #349.2.6. March 6, 1685.

Samuel 2 Rice (Edmund1) was born circa 1634.47 He was baptized on 12 November 1634 at Berkhamstead, Co of Hertfordshire. 59,10, 21 Samuel Rice married 1st Elizabeth King, daughter of Deacon Thomas King and Anne Collins, on 8 November 1655 at Sudbury, Middlesex Co, MA. 47, 59, 27, 67 Samuel Rice married 2nd Mary Dix, daughter of Edward Dix and Jane Wilkerson, on 2 September 1668 at Sudbury, Middlesex Co, MA.59Samuel Rice married 3rd Sarah White, daughter of John White and Joane West, on 13 December 1676 at Concord, Middlesex Co, MA, Samuel Rice's second wife is recorded in the Marlborough VR as having died 18 June 1678. Therefore, this marriage date or the death date for Samuel's second wife is in error.59,68 He died on 25 February 1684/85 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co, MA.62,69
He and Elizabeth King resided circa 1661 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co, MA. 70 On 2 May 1666 at Cambridge, Middlesex Co, MA, Samuel Rice , in testimony of court files, stated that he was 32 years old. 47 He left a will on 10 February 1684 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co, MA, proved 7 April 1685. Brothers Edward and Joseph Rice, Administrators. The will named wife Sarah; sons Joshua and Edmund; daughters Elizabeth Haynes, Hannah Hubbard, and Esther Hubbard; my son Samuel Rice, whom I have given to brother and sister King for their own; to sons Edward and Joseph; and two daughters Mary and Abigail Rice, under 18.
