Speculative connection.
Although there is no mention of John Morley's parentage in the accounts of Maud Morley/Thomas ap Guiliam , indications are that his lineage must be through Robert (2nd baron) Morley's second marriage to Joan de Tyes. Robert's son through his first marriage, William Morley, clearly had only one son, Thomas, as referred to in several accounts. Whereas Robert's second marriage occurred late enough for John to have been the product of that marriage - either having been son or possibley grandson through that particular lineage. It also states in the entry in 'Burke's Dormant, Abeyant, etc., on Robert de Morley that 'he m. 2ndly, Joane, dau. of Sir Peter de Tyes, and had, with other issue Sir Robert...'(p 362), intimating that there were other children of this union.

Llansantffraed, also the property of Mr Herbert, is more especially interesting as the ancient seat of Tomas ap Gwilym, from whom the Earls of Pembroke, Powis, and Carnarvon are descended, and the Dukes of Beaufort by the female line. Tomas ap Gwilym acquired Llansantffraed in the reign of Richard II, by his marriage with Maud, daughter of Sir John Morley, Knt., Lord of Raglan Castle. Tomas ab Gwilym died in 1438 and was buried in the church of Llanstantffraed. This church contains a curious sepulchral inscription recording his death and than of his successors to the year 1624. Llansantffraed is still kept up, and is now the residence of Major Herbert, younger brother of Mr Herbert of Llanarth, [Annals and Antiquities of Wales II:718] - The confusion about Ragland Castle, Thomas ap Gwilym and John Morley seems to have arisen in a confusion over what was inherited by Maud. She inherited Llansantffraed not Ragland Castle - John was probably lord of Ragland (or possibly a knight attached to Ragland) through an appointment of the crown and probably held Llansantffraed as personal property. Llansantffraed is NW of Abergavenny whereas Ragland is SE of Abergavenny.
