WADSWORTH -- Phyllis M. Gordon, 89, of Wadsworth, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015.
Phyllis was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Wadsworth to Stanley and Nora Auker, and graduated from Wadsworth High School in 1944. She married Glen Grossenbacher. After losing Glen in a tragic farm accident, Phyllis continued to raise their young children ages 8, 7, and 5.
She had worked at Ohio Injector, and Seville Elementary cafeteria for over 30 years. In 1967, she married Allen Gordon of Seville, and they were blessed with 46 years of marriage.
Phyllis was an active member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, where she served in the Altar Guild for over 40 years. She loved caring for others with visits, food and cards. She was always an avid fan for the Indians, Cavs and Browns; loved playing cards and board games.
She was an exceptional homemaker, especially baking. She cared deeply for her family and was always there for them.
Surviving are children, Bruce (Judy) Grossenbacher of Seville, Kathy Shreiner of Austin, Texas, and Janice (Dave) Murray of Wadsworth; a stepdaughter, Debbie Dalton of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Kim, Justin, Josh, Jill, Jared, Lauren, Kellene and Wade; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Auker; a sister, Wanda Connell; stepsons, Jack and Bruce Gordon; and a son-in-law, Jay Shreiner.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 19 from 4-7 p.m. at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Acme Road, where memorial services will be Friday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Armstrong Funeral Home, Seville.

Settled in Marlboro. In 1705, he was taken captive by the Indians atLancaster and carried to Canada.

Resided in Marlboro, married Jerusha Garfield.
In 1705, being at Lancaster, at the garrison house of Mr. Thomas Sawyer,he was, with Mr. Sawyer and his son Elias, taken by the Indians, andconveyed to Canada. They obtained their release in the following manner.Both of them were ingenious mechanics - Sawyer a blacksmith, and Bigelowa carpenter. While at Montreal, they proposed to the French Governor,that in case he would procure their ransom, they would erect for him asaw-mill, there being none at that time in Canada. The offer was readilyaccepted; they fulfilled their engagement; and after some delays, theywere permitted to return to their friends. Mr. Bigelow, in token of hisgratitude for his remarkable deliverance from captivity, called hisdaughter, born after his return, "COMFORT," and a second, "FREEDOM," asexpressive of the happiness and peace he then enjoyed, compared with whathe suffered while a prisoner. He d. Sept. 8, 1769, aged 94 years, 4mos., and 7 days. She d. Jan 16, 1758.
