U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is a descendant.
Sir Edward de Warenne, Knt. (natural son of John de Warenne, by Maud ofNerford), living 1347, d. bef. 1369; m. Cicely de Eton, daughter of SirNicholas de Eton, Knt., of Poynton and Stockport. [Ancestral Roots]
Watson's attempt, in "The House of Warren", vol ii, pp. 75-82, to provethat the Warrens of Poynton,Cheshire, were legitimately descended from anEarl of Surrey, was disposed of by Ormerod, "Hist. Cheshire". Edward, thefounder of the Poynton Warrens was abastard son of the last Warrenne Earl of Surrey by Maud deNerford, as is established by the fact that Maud's inheritance inSkeyton, Norfolk, remained in the family of the Warrens of Poynton forsome generations. Edward is mentioned in the Earl's will. [Complete Peerage]

Sir John Stanley. This, the most distinguished branch of the Stanleyfamily of England, is reckoned as descended from Sir John Stanley, theyounger brother of Sir William, of Hooton, of1397. He married IsabelLathom, daughter of Sir Thomas Lathom,Knight of Lathom, and Knowsley ofLancashire, and thus acquired those estates. In 1385 he was madelord-deputy of Ireland, and had a grant of the manor of Blake Castle inthat kingdom. In the seventh year of Henry IV, he obtained a grant in feeof the Isle of Man, with all the isles adjacent, to be holden of the saidKing, his heirs and successors, by homage and the service of twofalcons, payable on the days of their coronation. On theaccession of Henry V, hewas made a Knight of the Garter, and lord-lieutenant of Ireland, in whichgovernment he died on January 6, 1414.
Isabel was the daughter and heir of Sir thomas Lathom, Knight of Lathomand Knowsley, Co., Lancaster. He descended from Robert Fity Henry, whoseson Robert took the name of Lathom from his place of residence and thusacquired those estates.
In 1405 Sir John had a commission in conjunction with Roger Leketo seizeon the city of York and its liberties, and also upon the Isle of Man, onthe forfeiture of Henry Percy, Earl of Northumberland. In 1406 he wasTreasurer of the household to King Henry IV, and obtained the license tofortify a house atLiverpool, which he had newly built with embattledwalls. In the same year, having taken possession of the Isle of Man, heobtained a grant in fee of the said Isle, Castle and pileanciently calledHolm Town, and all the Isles adjacent, as also all the regalities, franchises, etc. John inherited the old Seatof Newton in Macclesfield,Cheshire. As a Captain under the command of his relation James, Lord Audley at thebattle of Poictiers in France fought the 19th day of September, 1357 byEdward, the Black Prince, son of KingEdward III, wherein John, King ofFrance was taken prisoner and brought captive to England. Soon after thismemorable victory a truce between England and France was agreed on fortwo years, during which interval of public action, Mr. Stanley, beingamartial genius, and intent to improve himself in the art of war, visitedmost of the courts in Europe, even as far as Constantinople where he madesuch advances in the school of war that his superior skill in arms wasgenerally applauded in every country he passed through in so much thatthe fame thereof gavehim the character of the most noted champion insingle combat of that age; and on his return through France, thereputation of his bravery so rallied the pride and envy of a haughtyFrench combatant that he followed John Stanley to England and therechallenged the whole nation to engage him in arms.
King Richard II commissioned him to Ireland in 1379. He was made LordChief Justice of Ireland for six years and in 1395 he was made Constableof the Castle of Roxborrow in Scotland.
