Rev. Roy R. Straub, 92, went home to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on May 18, 2018 in Greenville, NC. He was born in Hannibal, OH on May 14, 1926 to John and Mary {Winkler} Straub.
He graduated from Hannibal High School in 1945 and The Ohio State University in 1949. Following graduation, he worked several years in banking and accounting.
He married Winifred Simpson on July 29, 1955.
In 1958, he answered Gods call to ministry by attending Asbury Theological Seminary and graduated in 1961. His first pastorate was at the Africa Wesleyan Church near Galena, OH. Later pastorates were at Avon Wesleyan Church and Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church in New York. In New York, he was active in the Central New York District of The Wesleyan Church serving on various boards and committees in the District and Camp Programs. Since retiring, in 1990, he and his wife have made their home in Greenville, NC. After retirement, he served as interim pastor at First Wesleyan Church, Greenville, NC for three years. The Straubs have considered it a great privilege to have been called by God to serve Him in these churches. Most recently he has been affiliated with the Oakmont Baptist Church where he continued to be active in the Path Finders Sunday school class.
He was predeceased by his wife Winifred of 62 years, son John, his parents, brothers Wesley Straub, Samuel Straub, and sister Anna Kernen.
He is survived by his daughters Linda (Bradford) White, Greenville, NC, grandchildren Phillip, Janelle, and Jordan; Jane (Gregory) Whitaker, Corning, NY, grandchildren Kristin, Jonathan, and Stephen; great grandchildren Henry, Charlotte, and Owen. He is also survived by brother Emerson (Florence) Straub, sister-in-law Janet Straub, Sardis, OH as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 2:00pm, prior to his memorial service at 4:00pm. Service and visitation at Roberts Funeral Home, Hillcrest Chapel, Wadsworth, OH. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth, OH. Memorial gifts may be made to Asbury Seminary, 204 North Lexington Ave. Wilmore, Kentucky 40390.
