(6) John de Sutton, son and heir, m. Margaret de Somery abt. 1307 when
his father settled the manor of Worksop on them. He served in the Scotch
wars of Edward II in 1317-1320, in the retinue of his brother-in-law John
de Somery. Accused of complicity in the rebellion of the Earl of
Lancaster, he was imprisoned and a grant was extorted from him of all his
title to the town and castle of Dudley of which he became the feudal lord
in the right of his wife,but he was restored to possession on the
accession of Edward III in 1327. He was still living in 1329.
