Called "Francis the elder".Baptized in Titchfield 17 June 1619.(Noyes, et al, p. 438)He was a prominent man, respected andsuccesful in severalbusinesses in the community. In politics, however, he aligned himself diametrically opposed to his father Edmund, and to Wheelright. He was a leader in support of the Massachusetts cause to annex Maine to Massachusetts. He was a representative to the Massachusetts General Assembly in 1663 and1676. He served onthe Grand Jury and was county treasurer in the same period.He married (first) Jane Hill, daugher of Ralph Hillof Plymouth, Massachusetts, who died 20 December 1646. In 1648 hemarried(second) Rebecca ________.He was granted 50 acres of landin 1643, was the proprietor (ofa tavern) in Woburn, MA in 1646 and was of Dover, NH in 1648,and then removed to Wells where many of his siblings and closerelatives resided. He bought a house in Charlestown, MA in 1653. He was an inn holder in Ipswich, MA in 1770. He was licensed at Wells from 1700 to 1702. He deeded his homestead to his son Dependence (reserving a life interestfor himself) 29 March 1683, except for those parts that he had already given to his sons James and Daniel

If either Nicholas or John die under the age of twenty-one years, reversion to the survivor.

Overseers: Thomas Knight of Sencleres in the parish of Droxford, my brother James Litlefield of the same parish, and Nicholas Waller of Swanwicke in the parish of Titchfield, and for their pains I give to each 5s.

Proved 21 November 1618 by Anne Littlefeild, widow and relict of the deceased, and James Littlefeild, son of the deceased, the executors named. Bonds: said Anne, James Littlefeild of the same, clothworker, Edward Hartwell of same, yeoman, and John Withers of Wekeham, husbandman. Inventory of the goods of Frances Lettelfeld, taken 29 Oct 1618 by John Hovghton, John Weathers, John Coopper, John Beanne, and Isacke Hoopper, showed property appraised at ú230. 6s. 10d., with debts due him asby his book of accounts, made a total of ú261. 2s. 10d. The inventory included the usual household goods and implements of husbandry, cattle, poultry, and also the following things pertaining to his trade of clothmaker: in the wool loft 38 tod of wool at 28s. per tod, ú53. 4s.; cloth made and in hand, ú28; 3 kerses ready medeled, ú7. 6s.; 4 weight of green wool, ú10; 5 tod of blue wool, ú11. 6s.;
4 tod of black wool, ú4. 4s.; 30 lb. of fine black wool, ú4. 8s.; shears, shear-boards, cutting-boards, etc. (Archdeaconry of Winchester,1618, original will and inventory.)
Genealogical Research in England, 1913, NEHGR Vol. 67 pg 343-345: Francis Littlefield of Titchfield, co. Hants, the testator of 1618, was born probably about 1565, and was buried at Titchfield 22 Oct. 1618. He married first Mary______, who was buried at Titchfield 29 Oct. 1605, and secondly, at Titchfield, 14 July 1606, Annis Wigg, a widow with two children, Elizabeth and Robert Wigg. She was probably the Anne Littlefield who was buried at Titchfield 5 July 1619. Francis Littlefield was a clothier by trade and left a good estate. His parentage has not been learned, but he had brothers, James Littlefield of Droxford and Richard Littlefield, and asister Mary who married, 25 Jan. 1606/7, John Beane.
