[13087] living - details excluded
[15059] !I doubt very much, considering the ages of Margarite Mather and Elizabeth, that they were mother and daughter. Thomas and Margarite also had a son Richard who accompanied Elizabeth to New England and was about 22 years her senior, so I think it should be considered possible that Richard was Elizabeth's father rather than her brother, and that this would explain the disparity in Margarite's and Elizabeth's age

alternate death: 26 Jun 1690 Of Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut
The family was orginally French, with the name spelled "De Ming". They were Huguenots, who after the massacre of St. Bartholomew, dropped the capital "M" and wrote the name "Deming". They may have been among the adherents of the Reformation who went to Holland. Mr. John Deming was one of the chief civil and religion pillars of the Connecticut Colony. He wasa juror of the "Particular Court" in 1643, and in 1645 was member of the"General Court", from Wetherfield. He was one of the PATENTEES name ofthe Charter of 1662, and bore the title of "Mr.", an honor not lightly bestowed in his generation. From "Hall's Memoranda", page 133, by Mrs. S.F. HallWatertown, MA after immig.
Stiles, Hist of Ancient Wethersfield, Ct, II, p. 272.
Manwaring, Vol II, p. 55 John Deming, Sen of Wethersfield. Will dated 26 June, 1690:
"I, John Deming, Senior, do declare this to be my last will and testament: I having already done well by my son John, I now give him my great Bible, Geneva print, and my feather bed and bolster, and my great kettle. I give to my son Jonathan my fifty-acre lot at the west side of the bounds, to be to him and his heirs forever. I give to my son Samuel my house and home lot, with all the buildings upon it, containing nine acres be it more or less, and bounded as in the record; as also my meadow adjoining, containing about 17 acres, and abutting on Mr. Willis south, Thomas Standidge his land east, the highway north, and my homelott west; and 12 acres in the West Swamp, at the rear of my son David's lott. Also I give unto him my flock of sheep, and my neat cattle, and all my horses and swine, and all my moveables, within doors and without (not otherwise disposed of by this my last will), and all my husbandry tools, he paying my just debts, funeral charges and such legacies as I do hereb appoint him to pay. I give to my son David all my materials and tools in my shop, and my book debts, he paying those debts I owe about my trade. I give to my son Ebenezer my best coat and my best hat. I give to my daughter Morgan, my daughter Beckly, my daughter Hurbut and my daughter Wright, five pounds apiece, to be paid by my executor within five years after my decease. I give to my cousin Unis Standidge, and to my cousin Sarah Wyer, wife of John Wyer, twenty pounds apiece, to be paid within two year after my decease. I give to my daughter Moody 10s, having already give her a good portion. I give to my grandchild Ann Beckley L5. I appoint my son Samuel executor, and desire Capt. Samuel Talcott and my son Ebenezer Deming to be overseers."
Witness: John Allyn, George Grave. Codicil, dated 3 Feb. 1692: "Whereas, I gave to my son John my great Bible, my feather bed and bolster, and my great kettle, I now withdraw that gift and give unto my son John all my matherials and tools in my shop and my book debts, he paying those debts I owe about my trade. And whereas, in my will I gave my grandchild Ann Beckley L5, shee having miscarryed, I withdraw my gift from her, and that L5 I give to my son David." Witness: John Allyn, Zachariah Sandford.
Court Record, Page 72--21 Nov. 1705: Will exhibited by Samuel Deming.
Proven by testimony of Zarchary Sandford, the other witness being dead.
[Note the length of time before will was probated.)
Rev. soldiers by the name of Deming see The CT Nutmegger June 1992, pp. 14-29. Judson K. Deming, Genealogy of the Descendants of John Deming of Wethersfield, CT, Dubuque, 1904.
Virkus, Immigrant Ancestors, p. 26 from Eng to Wethersfield, CT 1635; rep Gen Ct 50 sessions; one of the patentees named in the Royal Charter of CT 1662.
John Deming was living on 25 Dec 1693 when the church at Wetherfield appointed a committee of six, including "Deacon John Demming" to procure a minister. (Wethersfield Town Votes, Vol. 1, p. 224)
John Deming did not receive a draw in the distribution of land by the town of Wethersfield on 15 Apr 1695, indicting he died before this time.
Prindle, Paul W. The American Genealogist, Vol. 62, No 3 July 1987, p.140 Concludes that Honor Treat was not the mother of John and Jonathan Deming. He also does not include Frances as one of his daughters.
