Frances O. (Brickel) Landis

Frances O. (Brickel) Landis, 99, residing in Sandusky, passed away Tuesday evening, January 16, 2018.
Frances was born October 11, 1918 in Rittman, OH to the late Herl and Mabel (Auker) Brickel.
Frances was a 1936 graduate of Rittman High School. She was an administrator at Lutheran Memorial Home for 13 years before retiring in 1994. Frances was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Rittman, a past member of the Firelands Hospital Auxiliary, and served as past president of the Lutheran Memorial Home Auxiliary.
Frances is survived by her sons, James (Kimberly) of Portland, OR, Roger (Debbie Trubee) of North Lawrence, OH and Ronald (Jackie) Landis of Sandusky; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Holsinger of Wadsworth, OH and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Owen Landis in 1992; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ron Moody; son; Frederick Landis; grandson, Benjamin Moody; sister, Helen Hoover and brothers, Bruce Brickel and Rev. Clair Brickel.
Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Col. James Taylor was a member of the House of Burgesses in Virginia, aveteran of the French and Indian War and a surveyor. Through their son,Richard, Col. Taylor is the great grandfather of President Zachary Taylorand President James Madison as well as the great-great-grandparents ofSarah Know Taylor, who married President Jefferson Davis of theConfederate States of America. Col. Taylor's home was called Monte Bello and he was given 16,000 poundsof tobacco for his services to the state of Virginia.
LDS records indicate that James was born March 14, 1675 in Accomack co.,Va. and that he died in Accomack County as well. The fact that he was buried in Orange County lends some credibility to the assumption that he in fact died there.
