WILLIAM (PAULET), MARQUESS OF WINCHESTER, &c., son and heir , by 1stwife, was born 1532-33; K.B. at the Coronation o f Queen Mary, 29September 1553; Sheriff of Hants, 1560-61 ; Joint Lord Lieutenant ofDorset, 20 November 1569; M.P. f or Dorset, 1571; styled LORD ST.JOHN, March-May 1572. He w as summoned to Parliament v.p., 5 May 1572,in his father' s Barony as LORD ST. JOHN, taking his seat, 10 Mayfollowin g. Joint Lord Lieutenant of Hants, 15 June 1585, and Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, 27 February 1585/6, both till his deat h; aCommissioner for the trial of the Earl of Arundel, 1 4 April 1589. Hemarried, between 20 June 1544 and 10 Febru ary 1547/8, Agnes, or Anne,1st daughter of William (HOWARD ), 1st BARON HOWARD OF EFFINGHAM, byhis 1st wife, Katherin e (to whom she was only child), sister andcoheir of John B ROUGHTON, of Toddington, Beds, daughter of JohnBROUGHTON , of the same. He died 24 November 1598 and was buried at Basing. His widow died 18 November 1601.
