Became Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. In his father's will he was bequeathed "Oaks" in Farquier, VA and other land.
!John Marshall was born in Germantown, Va., September 24, 1755. He served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and was a member of Virginia State House of Delegates, 1782-96; also U.S. Representative from Virginia at-large, 1799-1800;
U.S. Secretary of State, 1800-01; Chief Justice of U.S. Supreme Court, 1801-35. John Marshall died July 6, 1835 and he was laid to rest in the Shockoe Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia. Marshall counties are in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and West Virginia are named for him.
