... "Nicholas de Harpesfield, son of Thomas," had his title confirmed by
the abbott to a messuage and a carucate of land which comprised the
Harpesfield share of the manor. A settlement of this property was made in
143 on Nicholas and the heirs of his body, with successive remainders to
his sister, the wife of Giles Southeran and his kinsman John Ferrers.
Nicholas m. bef. 1472 Agnes Norton, dau of John Norton, lord of the
manors of Nutley and East Tisted, co Hants, which had been the property
of the Nortons since the reign of Edward I. Agnes de Harpesfield's
sister, Jane Norton, was Vicountess Lisle, and in her will of Novenber
21, Lady Lisle remembered her nephews John, Nicholas and George
Harpesfield and her niece Philippe Harbesfield, who was to marry Thomas
Dyneley. Nicholas Harpesfield was for a short time lord of the manorof
Upshall and of half the manor of Gatesbury both in Hertford, forfeited by
John Joskyn in 14651 but later recovered by his son Edward Joskyn.
Nicholas and Agnes Harpesfield were both living in 1485. Of their

sister of Governor Edw. Winslow II.
The "Mayflower" Winslows--Yeomen or Gentlemen? by John G. Hunt, NEHGR,
1967, Vol. 121, pg 25, 26:
Kenelm Winslow, was surely a yeoman, as proved by the text of his last
will, dated and proved at Worcesterin 1607.
Of Droitwich in the same country, his son, salt extractor Edward
Winslow, by his wife Magdalene Olyver, had five sons who were early
settlers of New England. Of these, the eldest was Edward, 1595-1659,
sometime governorof Plymouth Colony. The youngest daughter was
"Magdalene," 1604-1695, who stayed in England and whose grandson, William
Wake, 1657-1737, became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1716.

amongst my Children . . . my sdChildren also having manifested their

last will." All wearing apparell to be equally divided between her three
daughters Mary Burge, Mercy Winslow and Martha Seaverns; the restof the
estate, after debts are paid, to son-in-law John Burge; "excepting my
Indian squaw servant which I will and bequeath to my Son Samuel Worden."

but have kept it in the form of a genealogy report, in case it
might possibly prove true that thisMary was indeed a dau. of Edw. &
Magdalen in the future.
