John was born in 1858. He was the son of [[Hanafee-4|John Hanafee]].He passed away in 1919.
During 1910, John was the head of household in New Albany Ward 7, Floyd, Indiana, USA. His parents were both born in Ireland. John was enumerated as being married, however his wife had passed away the previousyear. According to the newspaper obituary quoted in the Find A Grave memorial,
John Hanafee, a Southern railroad passenger engineer and an old resident of the city, who lived at 1409 East Oak street, died at St. Edward's Hospital this morning. ... Besides his wife he is survived by five sons, William, Leo, and John Hanafee, of this city; Ensign Frank Hanafee, of the navy; and Eugene Hanafee, a student in St. Meinrad College.Mr. Hanafee was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. - New Albany Daily Ledger 01 Mar 1919 page 1 column 5.
