!Henry Isham, Sr., came to Virginia about 1656, where he had a grant ofland. As
the records of Henrico Co., where he lived at Bermuda Hundred, previous to 1677
have been destroyed, no copy of his willremains; but the records show that he
died about 1675. He married Katherine, widow of Joseph Royall, of HenricoCo.,
(stated in the Isham pedigree to be a daughter of Banks, ofCanterbury, England)
and had issue (1) Henry, died 1679, unmarried.(2) Mary, married William
Randolph, of "Turkey Island," Henrico Co., and (3) Anne, married Frances Eppes,
ofHenrico Co. In his will dated 13, November 1678 Henry Isham, Jr. namesmother,
sisters and step brother.
B.L. and R.J. Owens 1982, Sims Kin, History and Genealogy, The
Descendants of William Symes of Poundsford and Related Families.
Birth
is given in 1626 in Northamptonshire, England. Place isprobably
Pytchley.
E.P. Isham 1984, An Index of the Ishams in England and America. Date
of
birth given as 1628, with place of birth Bermuda Hundred upon James
River, Henrico County, Virginia. He notes that the Virginia Ishams
believe that Henry had other children than those mentioned in his
son's
will.
G.B. Roberts 1989, Ancestors of American Presidents. Birth circa
1628 probably at Pytchley, Northamptonshire. Death circa 1675
probably at Bermuda Hundred, Henrico County, Virginia.
Historical Southern Families 17, 1972. Henry Isham 1626-1676
supposedly opposed the autocratic Govern William Berkeley and thus
lost his life. He left no male descendants.
Virkus 5, 370. Descendancy from Euseby Isham and Anne Poulton
differs
from that given here, from E.P. Isham 1984. Virkus gives:
Euseby Isham - Anne Poulton
Henry Isham - JaneBeesley (Breesley)
Gregory Isham - Elizabth Catalyne (daughter of Robert Catalyne)
Henry Isham - Katherine (Banks) Royall Also state Henry "at Laguna in
the Canaries" in 1624.
Virkus 1, 459. Clifford Kennedy Berryman is a descendant of Henry
Isham
according this genealogy.
F.A. Virkus, Compendium of American Genealogy 7, 861. Henry came
directly from England to Virginia in 1654, settling at Bermuda
Hundred on the James River. Married Katherine (Banks)Royall in
1659.
F.A. Virkus, Compendium of American Genealogy 7, 822. Major Henry
Isham.
Virginia Magazine of History and Biography 4, 433, 1897. Henry Isham
died 1675. Here it is suggested there was another daughter who
married about 1710 Pierre or Jean Chastain, thus accounting for an
Isham Chastain who is found among the vestrymen of Antrim Parish,
Halifax County, Virginia.
Virginia Magazine of History and Biography 4, 123, 1896. Henry Isham
cameto Virginia about 1656 where he had received a grant of land.
Virginia Magazine of History and Biography 18, 87, 1910.

Charlemagne's Descendants, pp. 165-166.
http://www.ieq.com/~gbolles/html, 13 April 1996. Date of death 1
February 1678/9, probably at Bermuda Hundred.
B.J. Rokas 1984, Colonials and Kindred, p.16. To Virginia about
1656 where he was wealthy and influential. 1674, Virginia was in
economic trouble due to the low price of tobacco and dissention was
growing due to unpopular land grants by King Charles to his
favorites, which included already existing plantations. Within a
year troubles with the Indians had begun, but Governor Berkeley of
Virginia was unable to take action. In the spring of 1676, William
Byrd, Captain Crews, and Henry Isham raised an army led by Nathanial
Bacon to deal with the Indians, at which time they were declared
"rebels and mutineers" by the Governor. Success against the Indians
led to a continue revolt against the Virginia colonial government,
with Governor Berkeley fleeing before Bacon's troops. The rebellion
ended when Bacon died at the end of the year. Possibly Henry isham
died in the rebellion of was hung as one of the leaders.
