Local Father of 14 Dies in Car; Blame Weather
E.G. Cecil, Moral Twp., 58, Stricken After Car Is Stalled
A Shelby county man; father of 14 children, has been added to the list ofIndiana residents whose deaths have been attributed directly orindirectly to the severe weather of the past two days.
Elsworth G. Cecil, 58-year old Moral township resident, was found dead inhis car on a road east of Pleasant View about noon yesterday after havingsuffered a heart attack apparently some four hours earlier.
Mr. Cecil was enroute home from work at the Beech Grove railroad shops at6:00 a.m. when his car with a number of others, was stalled by snowdrifts on U.S. Highway 421. The report said Mr. Cecil joined in seekingto free the cars. After traffic was resumed he drove a short distance ona side road leading to his home and was found there by Roy Larrison, aneighbor, after Mrs. Cecil became alarmed at his continued absence.Several cars passed his automoblile, which was stopped on the edge of theroad, but his body was slumped over the wheel and was invisble topassersby.
A Resident of Shelby county for the past six years. Mr. Cecil a veteranof World War I, was employed as a stationary engineer at Beech Grove. Hewas born in Kentucky on October 18, 1893, the son of Boyd and Sallie(Pickerell)Cecil.
Surviving with the children and Mrs. Cecil, the former Cordellia Heltonto whom he was married in 1925, are four brothers and one sister, Adrianand John Ceciland Mrs. Mary Rose Burse of Finly; Alvin Cecil ofIndianapolis and Ben of Beech Grove. The children are Mrs. LeonaMattingly, Finly; Mrs. Donald Ethell and Mrs. Lawrence Bausback of thiscity, and Reba Mae, Della Rose, Ray Jr.; Alice Ruth, Robert, Cleo Ann,Aris Geneva, Mildred Bernice, James Everett, Connie Faye, and LarryDavid, all at home. There are three grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the Ewing Mortuary Friday at 2:00 p.m.with Rev. E. L. Ford officiating. Burial will be in the New Palestinecemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 7 o'clock tonight.
