On the muster roll listed in the Mass. Archives of Capt. Adijah Dewey's company of troopers raised for scouting in 1723. He served from September 3 to Sept. 25, 1723. A few later he was chosen lieutenant of the Westfield Company.

1730, Graduated from Yale and studied theology the following year
January 09, 1731, invited to Deerfield to preach the gospel a few Sabbaths
February 09, 1731, he was hired to preach for 2 months.
April 10, 1731, he was hired as minister of the town by a large majority.He accepted and was ordained the second pastor of the Deerfield Congregational Church, He served for 48 years until his death in 1780. He married 442 persons.
June 28, 1733, he bought a house lot in Deerfield which became the Ashley Homestead.
The son Jonathan Ashley became the second ordained minister of Deerfield.
