According to 'A Genealogical Register of the Inhabitants of the Town of Litchfield, Conn....' Samuel, of William; removed in 1664 to Killingworth, (now Clinton), CT, one of the original proprietors, where he lived the rest of his life. He was an extensive landholder, owning a large estate "amid the pleasant farms of Killingworth," filled many responsible public offices, and was a gentleman of great influence, as well as generous.
Samuel gave by deed dated February 15, 1696, to his son Samuel, Jr."Seven acres of Land for a house and lot, with a dwelling house theron"

His reign saw renewal of war with Phillip II Augustus of France to whom he has lost several continental possesions including Normandy by 1205. He came into conflict with his Barons and was forced to Sign the Magna Carta. His later repudiation of the charter led to the first barons war 1215-17 during which John died.
